Letters to Deepak Sthapit

Dear my friend, Deepak Sthapit

Hello! I am a university student living in Nagasaki of Japan. I read some compositions that you and other students wrote in Nepal. And I knew that brotherhood, cooperation and friendship were considered to be matters of great importance in Nepal. I also think those are very important. I think that when all human beings are friendly with their neighbors, battles and war are unnecessary.

Through two world wars, many people knew the pain of losing and the value of peace. Therefore to regain and maintain peace, a lot of countries have begun to work together.

However even if today, the world suffers from war-threat as you say. Some countries have battled due to political reasons; others have been political tensions. To make matters, there are some nuclear powers in the world. Particularly, it is senseless to carry out a nuclear test.

I agree with you that there is the need of peaceful settlement through mutual understanding to preserve the whole creation.

I was born in Japan. I am happy and love here. At the same time, I love our beautiful earth. And I want to love all living beings in this world. So I hope the happiness of loving and being loved spread over the whole world. Thank you.

I was very impressed with your report. You wrote this very well. Your English is great. I will mention some opinions about your report.

For one thing, you referred to WW I and WWII. As many people know, that was very dreadful incident. I happened to live in Nagasaki so I sometimes hear about atomic bomb. This is so horrible story. Many people were killed for a moment. To tell the truth, I didn't go to atomic museum and peace ceremony in Nagasaki. I will go there and talk many people about it. I have to do that. We never forget the history.

What is more, it is important to keep in mind that some countries are fighting this moment. We only have to know each other for making world peace. The people who was most damaged was the general public. They don't want to fight but have to do. That was very sad. Recently, I watched the TV program about boy army. Children were gathered and gave guns. And moreover, sometimes they were injected drags and took away their reasons. It was the most impressive that a boy said that when he killed person for the first time, he thought "I did!" I was very sad to hear that wards. He said with smile.

One hal point is my opinion about making world peace. There are so many people in the world; it is natural that there are many religions and wards. Existences of different people make him uneasy. But we only have to know each other. Just that. World peace will never come if only all people have happiness. The time of subdue with power have to be end. 21st century must be peace century. I really think so. I wish people in this world help each other and live happily.

Thank you for reading.

“What will happen? If the World War III breaks out.”

I don’t want to imagine such a thing. But, I think, the possibility is strong. There are some countries people are exposing the danger of death. It is not natural thing for me, because I’m spending peaceful time now. But I often watch scary reflection on TV. (Such as army, violence, hunger and so on. Yes, I know they are just one of things.) I also have read some magazines and newspapers.

If the world war III breaks out, what will happen? We will see scary landscape again? We will see the place wasted by war? The reason I think so is, first, the existence of nuclear weapons. There are many nuclear states now. If it comes true, the scale will larger than before. It’s sure, I think very much. Needless to say, nuclear weapons do harm our body and mind. It does harm nature, too. Maybe more people suffer from radiation, many natures turn into ash. Next reason is the experiences of two world wars. People know how to fight, how to attack. There are many dates the way of fight. We can do repetition following such dates.

Then, how can we avoid such a scary case? Is it possible? I want to believe so. We must avoid the World War III. It brings us only sadness and suffering. To be honest, I don’t know the way we avoid it, but I really hope it is not happen.

I can’t imagine there are no parents and sister in this world.

I can’t imagine there are no friends in this world.

I can’t imagine there are no trees and flowers in this world.

I feel very sad when I see the children living alone in dangerous area. There are many places exposing people’s life danger, because of war. We have to know the world’s view more. As long as we find out the risk of war, it has been broken out. Though the word I said sound like generally, they are straight from my heart.

Thank you.

I was impressed with your essay. You are great writer. So, I'm going to write my feeling about your essay.

As you wrote, God would create a beautiful living thing. But the living thing had hatred. The hatred of human brought many wars, fights and unhappiness to all over the world. If human didn't have hatred, all things would go well. That is to say, even God had not expected world war happened. Human is complex. People pray for peace, while people fight.

Two world wars slaughtered a lot of people. Magnifying territory is precious than life of the people? It shouldn't be trusted. All of the people must notice the importance of life and peace.

United Nations Organization for maintaining peace and international understanding works with every people of the entire world. But there is a little field the power of the UNO doesn't reach. In the future, it is necessary for UNO to solve the issues of internal conflict and religion. Also without depending the UNO, each country should try to solve each problem. Of course, the use of force doesn't have to?

Why do weapons exist? These are not necessary for us to live on usually! These only destroyed everything. I wish the weapons vanished from this world!

I found that Nepalese believes in non-interference, non-alignment, peaceful co-existence, friendship and peaceful settlement. I respect such principles. I think every people in this world should have such principles. I want to always remember such principles. And I hope that peace brings happiness to all people.

I read your composition. First of all, I learned the word "third war" by your composition. I have never thought up such a word. And your way to expressing of sentence is very humorous.

In this class, I have got a lot of knowledge about wars and peace. And I made sure that we all have hoped for the peace of the world.

The bombardments in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and other different places were quite cruel. But, by the incident, most of the countries of the world have thought over the folly of wars and importance of peace seriously. Although, it is irony, I wonder that is only the gift from the bombardments. And, it remains to be seen if we can find the solution to the problem. It is simple to think and say "we must not repeat same mistake." Most important thing is whether we can act or not.

Now that we have never experienced any wars, we cannot understand the real awfulness of wars. But, just only to image that, we can feel the misery of wars. And we cannot help but feel peace thanksgiving.

There is no human who is not needed. Human have a right to live a happy life by nature. It is not riches in money but riches in heart.

I pray for everlasting peace.

I read your writing about world peace for the 21st century. I admired your excellent thoughts and learning. And I’m very happy to learn about Nepal because I’m very interested in Nepal.

I look up to Lord Gautam Buddha. I think he is a great man in history. His lessons of non- violence, peace, humanity and brotherhood encouraged many people all over the world! I hope that his teaching is succeeded to offsprings.

By the way, your writing says “ it is our responsibility to promote peace and preserve the world from the scourge of war “, I really think so. With the world continuing to be plagued with regional strife and rampant epidemics. As long as disputes exist, the real peace will never come. Until the whole world becomes happy, there can be no happiness for the individual. In order to pursue the real peace, we must understand each other, and we should aim to realize the world with no strife.

To Strait,

Thank you for your letter. I read your letter, and I understood about your opinion. So I’d like to tell you what I think about world peace.

As you know, there are some countries that are still having wars. Even if I see the scene on TV, I can’t believe it. Because, everything surrounded me is very peaceful. Living in Japan is so peaceful that we may forget the past awful affairs. But I think we must have consciousness of world peace. We must see the real situation in the world and think about it. Japan experienced very horrible wars and many people were injured by the wars. With this experience, we must tell about how awful the war is to other countries where are now in the wars.

And other thing I think is important is mutual understanding. If every people in the world can get along with, there would be no wars and battles. But we have already known that it’s very difficult for ages. Because of our different religions, customs and cultures. So, how can we cooperate?  We should try to respect our differences each other and we should have broad mind. To become so, I recommend traveling to other country. If you go to other place, you can see the real differences of culture. You can feel, you can touch, and you can think about how different the world is at the moment.

Actually, I think now the earth doesn’t become one world. We should try to connect each other. Let’s begin from today!! We have already had a chance to be able to understand each opinion. So, let’s begin from us!!

I’m sure in the future, the world would be better one.

Dear Deepak Sthapit

Hello! I read your "World Peace for the 21st century". So I think you have a wealth of expression.

You said in your letter, "If the third world war breaks out, then imagine what will be the condition of the world?" And, "It will be more violent and destructive than those two world wars." too. I am altogether of your opinion.

Now, technology is developing more and more in the world, of course in Japan too. So I think Japanese people also can make terrible bombs. But Japanese people know the threat of atomic bombs well. So we never make nuclear weapons. And people of all over the world must understand how terrible atomic bombs are.

If this society is perfect world, there is no wars or troubles. But to my great regret perfect world does not exist.

In Japan, there are many matters that parents abuse their children in these days. Can the one who cannot love his children love his neighborhood? This is very pity story. But human can make efforts. Even if we can't love others now, let's make efforts to love him!

And we who live in Nagasaki that was done extensive damage by atomic bombs and you who live in Nepal where Lord Gautam Buddha was born must spread the necessity of peace so that any war wouldn't happen again.

    Sincerely yours,

Thank you for your letter. I agree your opinion and thinking. Peace is necessary for our world. Now, many countries want to live a life of peace in the world. But, Human beings realized peace is very important and irreplaceable after World War II. Human beings are stupid. Because we realized importance of peace when we lost many precious lives of people. We got peace at the sacrifice of many precious things.

Many young people haven’t experienced terrible wars. In particular, advanced countries people don’t know how wars were cruel and fearful. I am a one of these people. But I was born and brought up in Nagasaki. So I have heard about World War II from my grandfather, grandmother, uncles, aunts and people who had experienced war. I could learn their sorrow and anger against war. I think it was very important. People who had experienced should tell many young people about the terrible war.

I had opportunities that I talked with foreign people this summer. Then, I surprised there were people who didn’t know atomic bombs. Atomic bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan by America at the World War II. I had been thinking that every person knows atomic bombs. But, now there are even Japanese young people don’t know the war very well. There are people who make an appeal against wars. But it will make no sense only people who had experienced against the war. As you said, every person should think about peace. So it’s important for atomic bomb victims to tell about the war to young people who have never experienced the war. And young people should try to listen the dreadful war and think about the present peace.

Recently, many countries continue battles. It’s almost developing countries. While developing countries are doing battles, advanced countries try to do nuclear test. But many people want peace. It’s very strange. Why do they make nuclear? I think peace don’t nuclear.

We shouldn’t look back on old days. We should think about peace in the world and see our future.

I read your composition, so I return my mind to you. Today Japan has many problems in diplomacy. Korea and other south Asia countries oppose to have communication with Japan. Why do they have no communication with us? The answer I think is Japan conquered those countries in World War II.

In addition to this Japan army occupied local ordinary people, and compelled them to work. I wasn’t born in those days. I can’t comprehend what is true. I want Japanese statesmen to recover peaceful relation between Japan and south Asia countries and they have to repeat stupid wars. I hope the world is peace forever.

I have ever read writings about "world peace" which were wrote by Nepalese students 4 times. Every time I read those, I admired those. Because you are good writers. And you have more intimate knowledge about wars and the world situation than many Japanese students. Today in Japan, people below 56 years old haven't experienced wars. I think that I'm happy to live here. Because now Japan is a peaceful country. But recently in Japan, many cruel crimes we have never experienced happen one after another. The peaceful countryJapanis gradually breaking.

I was born and raised in Nagasaki. As you know, Nagasaki is A-bombed city. So there is Heiwakouen in Nagasaki. Heiwakouen is the memorial park. This park preys that we don't the same mistake as war again and world peace. There is the statue of peace in this park. The statue of peace is very famous as a symbol of the peaceful cityNagasaki. This statue was made as the memorial event when 10 years passed since the bomb was dropped in Nagasaki. His right hand pointing at the sky expresses how terrible the bomb is. His left hand stretching horizontally expresses peace. And closed his eyes prays that victims of war rest in peace. Every year on August 9 am 11:02, which the bomb was dropped, offered a silent prayer for the souls of the dead. At that time I always feel sorry for them and the bomb took the lives of many innocent people is hateful.

I have asked my aunt about her experience of war before. When the bomb was dropped in Nagasaki, she lived in far from Nagasaki. Therefore she was not bombed. But she saw mushroom cloud and heard a loud explosion. At first she didn't know what happened. Then she knew the same bomb as the one dropped in Hiroshima 3 days ago. The next day the bomb dropped in Nagasaki, her uncle's family who lived in Nagasaki came to her. Of course, they were A-bombed. The pieces of broken glass stuck in their bodies. My aunt and her sisters and brothers removed those from their bodies very hard. She said that she could come back to that scene still.

Today, there are some countries have the unclear in the world. The destructive power of this unclear is greater than the one dropped in Nagasaki. The unclear weapons threaten our life still. But recently the movement of the abolition of unclear weapons is very active. I think that the world that has no unclear weapons is the first step to peace. We Japanese people have to appeal to the world to abolish unclear weapons. That is our task as only country was bombed in the world.

Dear Deepak Sthapit

Hello!! In Japan we enjoy summer vacation. The other day I went to the sea and picked some pretty shells there. Now I would like to go and see high mountains. You have a lot of high and beautiful mountains in Nepal, don't you? It's very good!!! How about in Nepal?

I read your letter. Thank you. You said, "The aim of a religion is to promote brotherhood and peace. Different religions have described peace in different ways, but the target is the same." These words moved me! I think so, too. Everyone wishes the peace. But there are so many oppositions among religions. One tries to fight against the other only because their ideas about the peace are a little different. It is wrong. We should accept the different ways of thinking and cooperate each other to get the peace. Then more and more people can think about the peace together.

And you also said, "If the small and developing country like Nepal can work for peace, why can't other big and developed countries? If they can do so, surely the world will be free from violent wars and other evils." Certainly Gurkhas, the army and police from Nepal fight not for the territorial extension but for peace. They are admirable.

However I think that there is also violence at the place where they are. If we hope the true peace, we have to effort not to use violence. So I can't agree with Gurkhas very much. In The Constitution of Japan we say that we will never have military arms in order to realize peace all over the world. When we have no arms, we'll be able to live in peace. But actually Japan has the Self-Defense Forces. They mainly help the people who are damaged by disaster. In addition they train so that they can fight at battles. I'm against the latter and think that they violate the constitution. And I hope all military forces will be abolished all over the world.

What do you think about them? I'm looking forward to your letter!!

(From YM)

Human beings have hoped for the peace of the world. And we think that peace is the greatest property for us. I also think so. But I am not able to define what peace is. I think that peace is a hard word to give a definition.

In the first place, this world was born because of war. About 50 years ago, human beings were fighting with other countries for expansion of their countries territory and profit. For example, the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Japan involved all over the world in their war. A lot of people think that it is honor and contribution to die for their countries. As a result of this war, numerous people lost their important life and gave up hope. At last, human beings became aware of error and regretted. People have made their goal peace and effort to come true. A lot of people were gradually becoming conscious of the word "Peace".

There are various definition of the world peace. We have different ideas of each other. And there are not error definitions. Because definition of world peace is not only physical thing but also spiritual thing. So many men, so many minds. My definition of peace is the following; there is no war and battle, people are able to sleep soundly at night and live every day without fear of death. I was born in peaceful world and have brought up in comfortable circumstance so far.

So there are a lot of people who are not able to live a peaceful and quiet life. There are a lot of countries face the border disputes, tribal fighting or racial disputes now. To be frank, I can not image the fearful sight, but it is face.

People thought the world wish for peace. I think that human beings are brother and world is the one. So we are not able to get a real peace as long as there is unhappiness country. We have to try to settle the dispute as soon as possible. And go on an effort until every people in the world feel happy.

I read your composition.  I think you know a lot.  I have learned world history, but I can't explain that well like you.

Always, all people living in the earth wish for world peace. Peace is the most important thing for the human being at any time. In order to realize it, many organization and people are working hard.  In spite of that, people still making a lot of nuclear weapons. Because, nuclear states think nuclear weapons are necessary to maintain peace. I am opposite that opinion. I cannot understand that opinion.   Nuclear weapons bring us uneasy.  If nuclear states keep to having nuclear weapons, perfect peace will never come.

Probably, you know, Nagasaki is one of the bombed-out areas. . The memorial park and the statue of peace were built in order to we remember the wretched of wars.  I am writing this composition on August 8.  Tomorrow, August 9 is the day that Nagasaki experienced the atomic bomb. Peace ceremony is going to be held.  In the ceremony we pray for the world peace again and again.  Atomic bomb is very terrible and it brings us tragedy, terror, despair and so on. So we must not repeat it.  And we must not repeat war, too.

There are many ethnic conflicts in this world.  Difference of religions caused it.  Difference of the religions is the difference of the way of thinking. But I think base is resembles.  You said in your composition, Different religions have described peace in different ways but the target is the same. I think so too.  Every time war finish, people notice the importance of peace.  Nevertheless, people have been repeating war and strife.  That is very stupid.  There are no people who don’t hope peaceful world in the earth.  We should do what we can do in order to establish and maintain peace.  I think people need a mutual understanding in the internationalism. But mutual understanding is not so easy.  So we have to make an effort to know each other.
